The Center for Responsible AI is one of the largest centers deddicated to Responsible AI, bringing together ten startups, eight research centers, a law firm, and five industry leaders, that will collaborate to develop 21 innovative AI products leveraged by Responsible AI technologies as equity, explainability, and sustainability. The center is co-founded by the Portuguese PRR.

Project name: Responsible AI Center
Consortium Leader: Unbabel, Lda.
Description: This project aims to create the next generation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) products based on Responsible AI technologies. The Center for Responsible AI includes 25 partners from business and the R&ID system, ensuring the entire cycle of innovation, from the R&D phase to the negotiation phase, in order to place the country and Europe at the forefront of this field.
Start date: 01/10/2021
Completion date: 12/31/2025
Goals
- To develop the next generation of AI products, supported by advanced responsible AI technologies, with the aim of generating more than 217 million euros in exports;
- To create around 215 new highly qualified jobs, and also facilitate the completion of around 50 new doctorates and 80 new master's degrees;
- To develop efficient and sustainable AI technologies, as well as an energy certification solution, thus contributing to the green transition;
- To promote territorial cohesion and national and international synergies, as well as between academia and industry;
- To position Portugal as a world leader in Responsible AI principles and policies in order to influence European regulation and attract international talent and foreign investment.
