Youverse identifies one face among 1.6 million with 99.57% accuracy in NIST testing Written on

The result shows Youverse can spot duplicate identities and fraud across databases of millions.
Lisbon, August 13, 2026 — Youverse, a provider of enterprise-grade biometric identity verification, today announced that it has been independently evaluated for the first time in the NIST Face Recognition Technology Evaluation (FRTE) 1:N Identification test. Run by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, this benchmark measures one-to-many face search, the most demanding scenario in face recognition.
In its first submission, Youverse correctly identified the right person 99.57% of the time when searching a gallery of 1.6 million faces, measured at NIST's standard false-positive rate of 0.3%. Accuracy stayed high as the database grew, with a 98.97% accuracy on a gallery of 12 million faces, a scale comparable to national identity databases.
One-to-many identification is harder than everyday verification, which simply confirms a single claimed identity. It takes one face and searches it against millions to work out who someone is, or whether they already appear in a database. NIST treats it as its toughest test, and holding this accuracy as the gallery grows means Youverse can support identity systems where the database is large, and the answer has to be right. This scale runs on scalable search, a second-level search layer within Youverse that handles one-to-many matching efficiently across million-scale galleries.
For customers, the capability supports use cases such as detecting duplicate accounts, preventing fraud, and access control, strengthening the KYC and AML checks that depend on spotting when the same person appears more than once under different identities. Youverse pairs this matching with built-in anti-spoofing, so the face being searched is a real, live person. Youverse permits one-to-many search only for explicit, opt-in use cases, and does not allow unconstrained one-to-many search for surveillance.
"Independent evaluation by NIST is a major milestone for Youverse and a powerful validation of what we’ve built. Achieving a 99.57% true positive identification rate against a gallery of 1.6 million faces demonstrates that our technology delivers the scale and accuracy demanded by the world’s most critical identity systems. This isn’t a research prototype, it’s the same technology our customers can use in production today,"
