As we look forward to the new year, we couldn't move on without celebrating this amazing year. We had so much fun along the way! Here are some highlights from 2022.

New products and features released 🚀

Throughout the year, our technical team focused on delivering better and improved products that match the needs and specifications of our clients’ businesses. One example of our spirit of continuous commitment to innovation is the launch of YooniK Identity Verification, a product that allows businesses to seamlessly verify users' identity using a personal identity document.

YooniK Identity Verification enables scanning documents from 140 languages and it’s easy to deploy: with a plug-and-play mentality, it will take minutes to have it integrated into your application.

Some of the core added functionalities included:

• Certified liveness detection (ISO/IEC 30107-3);
• New integrations with identity providers (AWS Cognito, Okta, OneLogin, and Ping Identity);
• Scanning of documents from 200 countries and territories;
• Extensive dedicated developer documentation to ensure integration in minutes.

Contributing to the biometrics and identity communities

2022 was a busy year, but three major events come to mind when we talk about contributing to biometrics and identity communities. First, we became part of the Decentralized Identity Foundation, as Contributors. DIF is an engineering-driven organization focused on developing the foundational elements necessary to establish an open ecosystem for decentralized identity and ensure interop between all participants.

YooniK started to get noticed in the fintech and web3 space and we contributed to the Portugal Fintech Report 2022 with our success story with Black Ink Tech. Download the report to know how Black Ink Tech used our product to authenticate sports memorabilia.

Then, in October, YooniK became a partner with the European Association for Biometrics and had a virtual lunch talk where our CEO, Pedro Torres, talked about how face authentication can dramatically improve security and the user experience. The key innovation ingredient was bringing the self-sovereign decentralized approach to biometric authentication. You can read more about it in this article.

In November, we were once more at the biggest European tech fair, the web summit. At the same time, YooniK announced it was joining the Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) consortium, led by Unbabel, to develop cutting-edge tech products using AI. Working together with other outstanding companies and institutions, we will work toward developing an AI that minimizes prejudice and the negative effects of biased technology.

Growing the team and having fun along the way

This year, the team got bigger: new YooniKers joined the company in 2022! With the team growing and new roles being added to the organization, collaboration and team spirit were the guiding principles throughout the year.

We are very proud to be able to provide our YooniKers workspaces where they can work together when they feel to do so. We like working remotely but we also like working and laughing IRL. Right now, we have 4 workspaces: Viseu, Lisbon, Faro, and our virtual office at Gathertown.

By mid-December, we were a team of 14, and we felt like celebrating. Team members got together for an off-site Christmas event and had fun IRL eating, taking photos, playing around, and just having fun.
